If your boss or co-worker takes the time to give you a  feedback, looking in a bad-temper and defensive, you don’t really have to sit back and take it. If you disagree with the feedback and criticism you are getting, you can tell them that you have a different viewpoint. But it all depends on how you say it.

Here are some tips on how to stay positive and accept criticism without letting it get you down:

1. Accept the fact that you are not perfect.
2. Cross check your work; this will help you avoid silly mistakes.
3. Don’t take it personally; if your boss criticize your work, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he/she doesn’t like you.
4. Listen carefully to the comments and feedback.
5. Think what can you learn from this criticism.
6. Analyze and evaluate the feedback.
7. Don’t hold a grudge; it will affect your future work.
8. Remember everything happens for a reason; no hard work go unrewarded.

How To Be Tricky And Get Your Point Across Effectively Without Being Rude

Bad: Looking enraged

Good: “I’m glad you’re telling me this. However, from my perspective, I have been missing some deadlines because I had thought that projects x and y were the top priorities. Hence, I was focusing more on them. But am I looking at this wrong?”

Bad: Being offensive
Good: “I did not realize it was coming across that way, so I’m glad to know your perspective on this but from my point of view, it seems like (tell whatever your viewpoint is).”

Bad: Just replying with a curt “okay”. (This makes it look more like you give a damn to your boss and his feedback than actually processing it)
Good: Be responsive. Let your boss know what you’re going to do in response, even if it’s just to say that you need to give it some time or thought.

All in all, make sure whatever you say is in the right tone. Because tone matters a lot. One can misunderstand your intention if you have a snappy tone. Be glad about your boss’ feedback. Just take the positive side of the criticism or feedback. The bosses who take the time to give you an honest and candid feedback are the ones you want to work under. Always try to see the good side of everything. Don’t get demotivated by the criticism at work; constructive criticism is a key part of any job.
